Herbert Giersch, économiste allemand, est né le 11 Mai 1921 à Reichenbach, Schlesien.

Il fut président de la société du Mont-Pèlerin de 1986 à 1988, succédant à James M. Buchanan et cédant sa place à Antonio Martino.
