George C. Leef est né le 4 février 1951 à Milwaukee, dans le Wisconsin (USA). Il a obtenu son B.A. au Carroll College, à Waukesha, dans le Wisconsin en 1973, puis un J.D. de la Duke University Law School en 1977. Il fut candidat pour le Congrès américain en 1984 sous la bannière du Parti libertarien.

Il a travaillé pour la société Milliken & Co. de 1977 à 1979 puis il a enseigné l'économie, le droit, la logique et la philosophie à l'Université Northwood de 1980 à 1989 avec le grade de professeur adjoint. De 1989 à 1990, il fut conseiller politique et du droit du travail au sénat du Michigan. Il poursuit au sénat du Michigan en étant conseiller du sénateur, David Honigman, de 1991 à 1996.

Depuis 1988, il est chercheur au Mackinac Center for Public Policy. Il est actuellement, vice-président du Centre pour l'étude de l'enseignement supérieur en Caroline du Nord.

Il est l'auteur d'un livre intitulé Droit du travail et les libertés fondamentales. Et, il est aussi le rédacteur des commentaire de livres pour la revue, The Freeman et il a écrit plusieurs articles pour The Wall Street Journal, le Detroit Free Press, et Les Nouvelles de Detroit. Il réalise régulièrement des conférences et des débats sur une variété de sujets impliquant les vertus économiques et morales de la liberté et les méfaits de l'étatisme.
