Álvaro Vargas Llosa, né à Lima en 1966, est un auteur péruvien, directeur du centre pour la prospérité mondiale de l'Independent Institute, un think tank libéral américain.

Présentation
Alvaro Vargas Llosa nait au Pérou et fait ses études supérieures à Londres; il obtient son M.A. en histoire internationale à la London School of Economics.
Il travaille alors dans la presse, collaborant à de très nombreux journaux prestigieux: The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, la BBC, Miami Herald, Time Magazine, Granta magazine, El País, the International Herald Tribune, etc.
En 1990, il participe à la campagne présidentielle du Front démocratique de son père, Mario Vargas Llosa, en étant porte-parole auprès des journalistes.
Il continue à écrire comme commentateur politique sur la situation internationale, avec un centrage particulier sur la situation de l'Amérique Latine et ses dérives d'extrême gauche avec Evo Morales ou Hugo Chavez.
Son combat en faveur des libertés individuelles et en particulier de la liberté de la presse a été récompensé par de nombreuses distinctions internationales. Il a été également nommé Young Global Leader 2007 par les participants du forum de Davos.
