Lawrence H. White, né le 27 novembre 1954, est professeur d'économie à l'Université George Mason, aux Etats-Unis. Il est membre du Centre de recherche du Groupe de travail Mercatus, depuis l'automne 2009. Il donne des cours de troisième cycle au GMU sur la théorie monétaire, la macroéconomie, sur les marchés financiers et un cours de premier cycle sur la monnaie et la banque. Il est actuellement (en 2013) le président du SDAE (société pour le développement de l'école autrichienne d'économie ).

Ses livres et ses articles se concentrent principalement sur la théorie et l'histoire des systèmes monétaires et bancaires, avec des excursions dans l'histoire intellectuelle. Il est un expert international sur le système monétaire fondé sur la banque libre (Free banking).
