Howard H. Stevenson est professeur émérite Sarofim-Rock Baker Foundation[1] à la Harvard Business School. Il a occupé plusieurs postes importants au sein de l'université, notamment celui de doyen associé principal, directeur de la publication et président du conseil d'administration de la Harvard Business Publishing Company. Il est également cofondateur et ancien président de la Baupost Group, Inc., une société de gestion d'investissements pour les familles fortunées. En plus de sa carrière académique, Howard H. Stevenson est impliqué dans plusieurs conseils d'administration et organisations philanthropiques[2].

Howard H. Stevenson est reconnu pour ses contributions dans le domaine de l'entrepreneuriat et de la gestion d'entreprise. Il a écrit[3], édité ou coécrit douze livres et quarante-deux articles, abordant des sujets tels que les nouvelles entreprises, l'importance de l'entrepreneuriat, la gestion de l'immobilier et la stratégie d'entreprise. L'article "A paradigm of entrepreneurship: entrepreneurial management", co-écrit par Howard H. Stevenson et H.C. Jarillo-Mossi en 1990[4], présente un paradigme de l'entrepreneuriat centré sur la gestion entrepreneuriale. Le paradigme de Stevenson et Jarillo-Mossi met en avant la gestion proactive orientée vers les opportunités. Le cadre de Stevenson a contribué à établir la gestion entrepreneuriale en tant que cadre conceptuel. Il a permis de mieux comprendre les compétences et les comportements nécessaires pour stimuler l'innovation, la croissance et la création de valeur dans les organisations, et a eu un impact significatif sur le développement de la théorie et de la pratique de l'entrepreneuriat. Son analyse montre que l'entrepreneuriat ne se limite pas aux nouvelles entreprises, mais peut également être observé au sein d'organisations existantes. Une théorie chaotique de la gestion entrepreneuriale des entreprises

Dans l'article intitulé "Entrepreneurial Management's Need for a More 'Chaotic' Theory", co-écrit par S. Harmeling et Howard Stevenson en 1990, les auteurs soulignent la nécessité d'une théorie "chaotique" pour la gestion entrepreneuriale. Ils remettent en question les approches traditionnelles de la gestion qui se concentrent sur la planification et le contrôle, et proposent une perspective plus dynamique et adaptative de l'entrepreneuriat.

Selon Harmeling et Stevenson, la nature de l'entrepreneuriat est intrinsèquement chaotique, caractérisée par l'incertitude, la volatilité et la discontinuité. Les entrepreneurs doivent faire face à des conditions changeantes et imprévisibles, et doivent être capables de s'adapter rapidement aux opportunités et aux défis qui se présentent. Ils appellent à un changement de perspective et à une reconnaissance de la nature dynamique et non linéaire de l'entrepreneuriat.

Cet article a contribué à élargir la compréhension de la gestion entrepreneuriale en mettant en évidence la nécessité d'une approche plus adaptative et chaotique.
