John B. Egger est professeur d'économie à l'Université de Towson. Il définit l'économie comme une science sociale basée sur le principe simple mais puissant que les individus font des choix. La théorie économique est une structure de concepts logiquement intégrés, qui explique beaucoup de choses sur le comportement humain et de la société. En utilisant des concepts logiquement liés, comme la valeur, le coût, la demande et l'offre, John B. Egger explique les causes et les effets provenant des choix des individus. La plupart des options qui s'offrent à un individu sont en grande partie le résultat de ses propres choix présents et antérieurs, et la décision qu'il prend affecte les alternatives qui s'offriront à lui plus tard. Il précise que l'économie est particulièrement utile pour soulever les points problématiques des effets non intentionnels, c'est à dire les conséquences indirectes susceptibles d'être inaperçues et ignorées par la plupart des gens sauf par les experts formés pour cela, et dont les économistes devraient être un groupe majoritaire, et particulièrement de détecter les effets contraires à l'objectif qu'il avait l'intention d'atteindre.
