Leslie Marsh

Leslie Marsh travaille à l'Institut de la Nouvelle Angleterre sur l'étude des sciences cognitives et des études évolutionnaires.

Leslie Marsh a étudié la relation de Michael Oakeshott entre la religion, la science et la politique, notamment sous l'œil de la théorie de l'évolution et du créationnisme dans la philosophie de la biologie et dans la philosophie des sciences sociales.

Leslie Marsh a développé une théorie de la cognition stigmergique. Selon cette théorie, savoir c'est connaître, et la connaissance est liée à un agent avec une culture limitée, une rationalité limitée et qui est situé dans un certain environnement. La connaissance et la cognition sont donc un double aspect de la sociabilité humaine. Le domaine d'étude de l'épistémologie sociale repose sur la formation, l'acquisition, la médiation, la transmission et la diffusion des connaissances dans des communautés complexes de connaisseurs. La stigmergie consiste dans le phénomène de la communication indirecte modifiée par l'environnement. L'extension de cette notion de stigmergie sociale se conçoit comme l'analogie d'un réseau de neurones extra-crânienne artificielle fournissant une structure épistémique. La stigmergie est donc une théorie de l'interaction au sein de la théorie des systèmes complexes, fonctionnant comme un algorithme d'optimisation par nuages de particules.
