Richard Michael Cyert (né le 22 juillet 1921 à Winona, dans le Minnesota : USA - décédé le 7 octobre 1998, à Fox Chapel, Pennsylvanie, USA) était un économiste américain et théoricien en organisation. Il fut le sixième président de l'Université Carnegie Mellon à Pittsburgh, Pennsylvanie, aux États-Unis. Et, il est principalement connu de son travail fondamental, écrit en 1959, avec James G. March, sur "La théorie comportementale de l'entreprise".

Il fut diplômé de l'Université du Minnesota (B.S.) en 1943, puis il a rejoint la marine américaine. Il a obtenu son doctorat en économie de l'Université de Columbia après la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il a obtenu son doctorat (Ph. D) à l'université Columbia en 1952. Il a enseigné brièvement au City College de New York, puis il a occupé un poste à Pittsburgh au Carnegie Institute of Technology en 1948 pour enseigner la comptabilité et l'audit. Il enseigna l'économie, les statistiques et l'administration industrielle pendant 14 années avant d'être nommé doyen de l'École supérieure d'administration industrielle.
