William H. Hutt (3 août 1899- 19 juin 1988 à Irving) était un économiste britannique et ancien membre de la Société du Mont-Pèlerin. Il naît à Londres d'un père typographe et étudie à la London School of Economics à partir de 1919. Jusqu'en 1928, il suit de manière informelle les cours de la LSE. Cette année-là, il rejoint l'université de Cape Town où il enseignera toute sa vie.
Il était le défenseur de l'économie de marché et s'est opposé à l'interventionnisme des politiques keynesiennes. Il a également montré les déficiences des pratiques syndicales et a inventé le terme de souveraineté du consommateur. Enseignant en Afrique du Sud, il s'est révolté contre le racisme imposé par des lois étatistes.
